At the heart of the Cambridge life sciences cluster – centred at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus – is AstraZeneca’s strategic, global Discovery Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that will enable the delivery of the company’s science-led strategy.

The company is proud of its 100-year heritage in advancing UK science, including 30-years in Cambridge through what was known as MedImmune and, formerly, Cambridge Antibody Technology. Today, AstraZeneca operates in more than 100 countries and its scientists focus on the treatment of diseases where they can make the most meaningful difference to patients, in oncology; rare diseases; cardiovascular, renal & metabolism; respiratory & immunology; and vaccines and immune therapies – by discovering, developing and delivering innovative medicines used by millions of patients worldwide

AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre is a vibrant hub in which scientists work alongside partners on cutting-edge science. The facility is home to a wide range of leading scientific capabilities, bringing together the company’s small molecule and biologics research.

In line with AstraZeneca’s Ambition Zero Carbon programme, the Discovery Centre is designed to be energy efficient and with sustainability at its core. This commitment is evidenced by the implementation of carbon reducing technology such as a ground source heat pump system, rainwater harvesting and high plume dilution fans. In addition, AstraZeneca’s travel strategy enables employees to make sustainable and convenient choices to travel to work.

In a further demonstration of its commitment to the local community, AstraZeneca actively encourages innovation and entrepreneurship in life sciences by helping to inspire the scientists of the future as well as working with the scientists of today. Over 100 of the company’s employees are STEM volunteers in Cambridge and more than 75 are business mentors. In addition to volunteering on a range of local projects and community groups, employees from across AstraZeneca’s Cambridge campus select a local charity partner for the company’s Cambridge Charity of the Year programme.

By driving a convergence of innovation, collaboration and talent from the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, AstraZeneca will continue to push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines for patients.
